“The Twelve Dogs of Christmas” also needs people 50 or older for its cast.

BETHEL – Chihuahuas, boxers and newborn St. Bernard puppies are being sought for the upcoming filming of “The Twelve Dogs of Christmas” movie in Bethel.

The filmmakers have been having a hard time finding canines from these three breeds, says producer Daenen Merrill of Los Angeles.

Casting director Bonnie Marshall of Bethel said people brought photos to the first casting session on Tuesday night of adult St. Bernards, but not the desired puppies they’re looking for.

Marshall also said Wednesday that she’d like to have more men and women age 50 or over go to one or more of the remaining casting days.

“We’ve had lots of people come in, but of the 50 and up age group, we don’t have an awful lot of them. We have not had that great of a response from this group,” Marshall said.

People of this age group are being sought to be featured as townspeople on various filming days, Merrill added.

Casting for background players and featured extra parts is proceeding well, as are support with costumes, antiques and 1920s cars.

But, Merrill said, “There can never be enough, so please keep them coming.”

The remaining casting times and days are:

• 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 5

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 6

• 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9

• 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 13

Casting is taking place at the Spring Street Dance Studio at the top of Main Street in Bethel.
