Howard Dyer, 97, was awarded the Boston Post Cane as the oldest citizen of Otisfield.
OTISFIELD – A new selectman, town clerk, school director and recreation director were elected at Saturday’s annual meeting. It took nearly two hours to fill nine positions.
Penny Tougas was chosen town clerk with 110 votes to Shirley Hamilton’s 105.
Mark Cyr garnered 130 votes to be elected selectman over Mike McAllister who got 82. Selectman Lenny Adler was elected chairman of the board.
Hamilton and Tougas were nominated for treasurer, and after Hamilton declined the nomination Tougas won on a show of hands. Both were nominated for the tax collector, and Tougas won again in a show of hands.
Road Commissioner Richard Bean Sr. and SAD 17 director Joe Vaillancourt were re-elected. A one-year seat on the school board was won by Dave Hankins with 81 votes, to 53 for Ann Marie Brett.
Barbara Dunham received 129 votes to replace recreation director Marianne Izzo-Morin, who got 70.
Before the meeting, plaques were presented in appreciation for service to the community. Moderator Frank Blauvelt received one for 25 years, and Selectman Gerry Robinson received one for serving 12 years on the board.
“You have done an excellent job and you have certainly been a pleasure to work with,” Adler told Robinson, who was attending his last town meeting as a selectman.
Adler spoke about the cooperation the board had even when they were not in agreement about an issue.
Outgoing town clerk, treasurer and tax collector Ann Pastore also was recognized for her five years of service.
“Thank you,” she said. “It’s been really great working with all of you, well, most all of you.”
