Contest for girls

OXFORD HILLS – Girls ages 9 through 18 are invited to participate in the “Turn Beauty Inside Out, Maine” poster contest. It’s sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Gender Project with the support of the Maine Women’s Fund to creatively challenge many of the current media messages that tell girls they need to be prettier, thinner and sexier to be beautiful or even to be okay. Deadline for submission of a poster is March 26. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories: 9 to 11 years old, 12 to 14 and 15 to 18. First prize will be $75. Second prize will be $25 in each category. Posters should illustrate new and visible stories about who the girls are, and what it means to be female and beautiful in the world today.
