1926 – 2004

RUMFORD Donald E. Chase Jr., 78, died Sunday, March 7, at his residence on the Swain Road, Rumford.

He was born in Mexico, on Feb. 19, 1926, a son of Donald and Agnes (Howard) Chase, Sr., and attended Mexico schools. During World War II he served as a Pfc with the US Army 1301st ASU Med Det from Nov. 16, 1945 to Nov. 15, 1948 and received the Bronze Star.

He worked for over 40 years as a machine tender at Boise Cascade Paper Company until retirement in 1978.

He was a Communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church; a member of the Robert Shand Post # 1641, V.F.W. and Napoleon Ouellette Post # 24, American Legion.

He was married in Weinhein, Germany April 10, 1948 to the former Elizabeth B. Schmitt who survives in Rumford.

Other survivors include 6 sons, Horst Schmitt and wife Inge of Vancouver, Washington, Edwin Chase and wife Joanne of Jessup, Ga., Larry Chase and wife Kim of Lisbon Falls, Peter Chase and wife Rhonda of Rumford, Paul Chase and wife Darlene of Monmouth, David Chase and wife Brenda of Litchfield; a sister Dorothy Casey of Mexico; 16 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.

He was predeceased by 2 sons Klaus and Garry.
