LISBON – A Maryland printing company is buying Dingley Press, a premier catalog printer that has been in operation since 1928.

A deal with The Sheridan Group Inc. of Hunt Valley, Md., is expected to close in April. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Few changes are expected. The company will still continue to operate as Dingley Press, and Christopher Pierce will continue as president and chief operating officer.

“I’m excited that all Dingley Press employees have the opportunity to join The Sheridan Group, which is a first-class organization,” said Pierce in a statement. “They are committed to profitable growth at Dingley, which will allow us to continue on the path that has been successful.”

Dingley Press employs about 480 people. It is ranked among the top 15 catalog printers in the country.

Pierce bought the company in 1980. It moved to its current location at 119 Lisbon St. in 1989.

The Dingley Press provides nationwide catalog customers with print runs of 300,000 to 10 million copies.

The Sheridan Group is a group of printing companies focused on the journal, magazine, catalog, book and article reprint markets. It is comprised of six subsidiaries: The Sheridan Press in Pennsylvania; Capital City Press in Vermont; Sheridan Books Inc. in Michigan and Virginia; Dartmouth Printing Co. and Dartmouth Journal Services in New Hampshire; and United Litho Inc. in Virginia.
