PORTLAND – Lila Irene Tufts, 81, of New Gloucester, was born to Bertha and Charles Strout on March 3, 1923 in Gray. She attended schools in the area.

She met her best friend, Wilbur D. Tufts and later married him on Nov. 2, 1940.

Surviving are a son, Wilbur B. Tufts, and a daughter, Anita Stone Richards, both of New Gloucester; one sister, Velma Smith of Oxford; three grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in Maine.

She was predeceased in 1973 by her beloved husband, Wilbur D. Tufts, of New Gloucester.
