PRESQUE ISLE (AP) – A snowmobile carrying three people crashed into a tree that had fallen across a trail early Saturday, leaving the juvenile driver injured and the two passengers – a man and a boy – dead, authorities said.

The victims were identified as John Bellanger, 36, and Travis Wood, 12, both of Presque Isle.

Maine Warden Service spokesman Mark Latti said the identity of the 15-year-old driver was being withheld while an investigation continued.

Latti said the crash occurred about two miles outside of downtown Presque Isle on a straight stretch of the interstate trail system between 12:30 and 1 a.m.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital, Latti said.
