PERU – A public hearing on the Pine Tree Zones proposed in Peru was held Monday night during the selectmen’s meeting.

Rose Bradley from the River Valley Growth Council answered questions from board members and residents about the economic incentives for the old Diamond Match mill and Winderosa Inc., the two sites being considered.

According to Bradley, Winderosa is eligible for the tax incentives associated with Pine Tree Zones because of a planned expansion at the gasket maker located off Route 108. She also said voters at Peru’s town meeting will have an opportunity to hear from a member of the council before deciding on whether or not to give the selectmen authority to work with the council on the Pine Tree Zones.

A second hearing on the proposed animal control ordinance, which will also be voted on at the town meeting, was held Monday evening. The ordinance is designed to make it easier for the town to collect fees and costs from animal owners that violate the ordinance.

Road Commissioner David Gammon let the board know that the Federal Emergency Management Agency emergency assistance had been approved to help the town pay for road repairs needed after the Dec. 6-7 floods. The total assistance is around $3,600.
