RUMFORD – Unitarian/Universalist Society will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 21, at 114 Franklin St. Discussion will be on “Two Black Men in American – The Experiences of Vernon Jordan and Randall Robinson.” The public is welcome.

Historical group

MEXICO – The regular meeting of the Mexico Historical Society will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the Calvin Lyons room in the town office. A potluck supper will be preceded by a business meeting, then they will reminisce on events that helped change their lives.

Lions meeting

DIXFIELD – The Lions Club recently met at Welch’s Campground for a dinner meeting. Henry Desroches led the club in song.

King Lions James Hanson announced the annual pancake and french toast breakfast fund-raiser will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday, April 4. Volunteers serving on committees are Carroll Noyes and Bob Doucette, servers and cooks; Henry Desroches, greeter; Mike Johnson, server; Art Carrier, sales; Craig Coulthhard, treasurer; Phil Roberts, publicity; and James Hanson, head cook. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Welch’s Campground.

WOWS speaker

RUMFORD – WOWS (Widows or Widowers Sharing) will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, for a dessert meeting at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street. Speaker will be Joe Sirois, who will talk about Oxford County programs for the handicapped, and the work that is being done at the Rumford Armory Building. All widows and widowers in the area are invited.

College planning

MEXICO – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center is offering a free workshop on the essentials of college planning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, at University College at Rumford/Mexico. Christy Le will be the instructor. Call 1-800-281-3703 to register.
