ANAHEIM, Calif. – Sergei Fedorov scored his second goal of the game on a power play seven minutes into the third period to give Anaheim an 8-6 victory over his former team in the highest scoring game in Mighty Ducks history.

The Ducks set a franchise record scoring five goals in 10 minutes and 4 seconds – spanning the first and second period – to erase an early three-goal deficit.

The Red Wings respond with a second three-goal outburst to take a 6-5 lead early in the third period on a goal by Ray Whitney.

Vitaly Vishnevski tied the game for Anaheim at 6 at 2:17 of the third period.

Fedorov slammed in a pass from Keith Carney that Rob Niedermayer partially deflected as it went through the slot at 7:01 to put the Ducks up for good.

Steve Rucchin scored his second goal of the game into an empty net to secure the win for the Ducks, the first by Anaheim against Detroit this season after sweeping the Red Wings in the opening round of the playoffs last year.

Anaheim’s Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 51 saves, a franchise record for a regular season game.

Joffrey Lupul and Rucchin scored in the first period, and Samuel Pahlsson, Fedorov and Petr Sykora in the second for the Ducks.

Pavel Datsyuk, Brett Hull and Steve Yzerman had scored within the first 6:31 of the game to put Detroit ahead 3-0.

Detroit responded to the five-goal Anaheim outburst by tying the game late in the second period on goals by defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Jamie Rivers.

Datsyuk scored on a wrist shot from the right circle 2:59 after the opening faceoff. Working on a power play two minutes later he moved a slick backhand pass across the slot to Hull for a tap in goal.

Yzerman fired the puck along the ice to Giguere’s left to make it 3-0.

The Ducks began their rally with Lupul tipping in a goal-mouth pass from Fedorov on a power play at 13:54 of the first and Rucchin swiping in a rebound 1:24 later.

The Red Wings had 23 shots against Giguere in the first period and 41 through two periods.

Anaheim tied the game on a one-time shot by Pahlsson from the slot at 2:10 of the second. Fedorov knocked in a rebound 26 seconds later and that was the end of the night for Detroit starting goalie Many Legate, who allowed four goals on 12 shots.

Sykora greeted Curtis Joseph with a goal at 3:58 of the second.

Notes: Datsyuk’s first period assist was the 100th of his career and Sykora’s goal was the 200th of his career … Detroit defenseman Mathieu Schneider was a late scratch with a groin strain. He is day-to-day … The sellout was the tenth of the season for Anaheim, the most since the 1997-98 season when the club sold out 25 games.
