SEMINOLE, Fla. – Senior right-hander Brian Marshall hurled a seven-hitter and freshman Ryan Bourque drove in five runs as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Frostburg State University Bobcats 12-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

In the nightcap, Frostburg State senior left-hander Brent Lutz turned the tables, limiting the Huskies to eight hits in an 8-1 victory as the Bobcats salvaged a split.

Marshall, making his first start of the season after two relief appearances, went the distance for the first time in his collegiate career. Marshall has not pitched for the Huskies since his freshman season (2001) when he made five appearances, including two starts. He allowed single runs in the second and sixth innings, walked just one while striking out three. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.

Bourque, who took over the team lead in RBI, had a bases-loaded triple in the Huskies’ seven-run, third-inning outburst. He also drove in runs with sacrifice flies in the fourth and sixth innings. He scored the first run of the game in the second inning when he walked, stole second and came home on a double by freshman Joe Ganley.

In the second game, Lutz was touched for a run in the second inning on an RBI double by Bourque, and then shut down the Huskies the rest of the way. He allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out eight for his third win of the season against one loss.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead against USM freshman right-hander Josh Stroup of Monmouth in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Justin Wilt.
