1921 – 2004

NORWAY – Muriel J. Cayer, 83, died Sunday, March 21, at the Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway. A lifelong resident of the area, she had resided on the South Rumford Road in Rumford.

Born in Rumford, Jan. 25, 1921, a daughter of Jonathan and Irene (Birt) Jay, she graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1938.

She was a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church and was a past worthy matron of Mt. Zircon Chapter 142, O.E.S. and was a member of the Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW Auxiliary.

She was married in Rumford on Aug. 2, 1941, to Louis F.E. Cayer who survives of Rumford; other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Anastasio and husband, Frank of Rumford; a son, Louis J. Cayer II and wife, Sue of Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Marjorie Oliver of Brunswick; a brother, Winston Jay and wife, Marilyn of East Patchogue, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
