How the woman died is undetermined.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) – The death of a woman whose nude body was found at this seaside resort town does not appear to be suspicious, investigators said Monday.

The Department of Public Safety said fresh information led to progress in identifying the woman, who was thought to be in her 20s or 30s.

“Detectives are working with the medical examiner’s office and with the woman’s family to establish a positive identification,” said Stephen McCausland, Public Safety spokesman.

An autopsy was performed Monday at the medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where a spokeswoman said a determination as to cause of death was “pending further study and investigation.”

A couple walking their dog found the woman’s body on a boardwalk in the Ocean Park area of the beach at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

Maine State Police said they have not yet determined how the woman died and have not classified the death.

Police described the woman as 6 feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. She had above-the-shoulder brown hair and brown eyes.

Clothes found nearby, which police believe were hers, included a tan barn jacket with a corduroy collar, blue jeans and hiking boots.

“Our immediate task is to figure out who she is, and then we can start retracing her footsteps,” McCausland said.
