PARIS – A Rumford man was indicted Thursday on prescription drug trafficking charges by the Oxford County grand jury.

Earl S. Blanchard Jr., 45, of 421 Cumberland St., Apt. 4, was charged with two felony counts of trafficking in prescription pills, one count of trafficking in marijuana, two felony counts of acquiring drugs by deception, and criminal forfeiture of a shotgun.

He is to be arraigned at 8 a.m. Friday, April 9, in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.

According to the indictment, Blanchard allegedly:

• Trafficked in Hydrocodone between July 3 and Dec. 19, 2003.

• Trafficked in Propoxyphene between July 14 and Dec. 19, 2003.

• Trafficked in marijuana on Dec. 19, 2003.

• Used deception by doctor shopping to get a prescription for Hydrocodone between July 3 and Dec. 19, 2003.

• Used deception to get a prescription for Propoxyphene between July 14 and Dec. 19, 2003.

Arresting Maine Drug Enforcement agent Tony Milligan also seized a 12-gauge Stevens shotgun from Blanchard’s apartment during a mid-December search warrant execution.

Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic and cough reliever.

Propoxyphene, a habit-forming drug that is sold under the brand name Darvocet, is a pain reliever.
