PARIS – Bottle drives, car washes and maybe even a supper or two are on the fund-raising agenda for the DECA Club at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The team is on the fast track for raising money since winning the state tournament on Feb. 26-27. Its performance means 20 students are eligible for the national competition in Nashville, Tenn.

There, they will compete with more than 13,000 others from April 30 to May 5.

OHCHS won its last state Distributive Education Clubs of America championship in 1999.

The club is determined to raise $12,000 for all students to attend. They are offering sponsorships by which patrons can help displace the costs of meals, lodging or $875 for full sponsorship of one student.

Along with winning the state title, the school was awarded the Chapter of the Year Award and the outstanding DECA student award went to OHCHS’s Krystal Annance.

The OHCHS club, comprised of students interested in business and marketing, participated in the state tournament against five schools about 130 students.

Students participated in individual and team categories and there was a written competition.

“The students were well prepared,” said marketing teacher Pat Pelletier. “We have been working on fund-raisers throughout the year, but still to raise much more. This trip is an invaluable and exciting learning experience for all involved.” The conference prepares them to one of the country’s future business leaders.
