1918 – 2004

AUBURN – Mary Jeanette Goossen, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 24. Her passing was very peaceful, with her family by her side. Formerly of Hillview Estates, Turner, she had been a resident of Schooner Estates in Auburn, for the past four years.

She was born on March 16, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., one of four daughters, to William and Mary (Mintrup) Jaegar. In 1939, she married Philip C. Johnson. The couple initially resided in Peru, Neb., before moving to Massachusetts, in 1949, where Philip was a professor at Gordan College and eventually a pastor of First Baptist Church in Manchester, Mass. He passed away in 1971.

A loving wife, and caring mother to her three daughters, Jeanette served her family well as a homemaker, and was always involved in many church activities throughout her life. From 1971, until her retirement in 1983, she also worked in the library at Gordon College.

In 1983, she married Edward Goossen, and in 1986, they moved to Turner, where they enjoyed many happy years visiting with children and grandchildren and attending Court Street Baptist Church. He passed away in 1999.

She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and by her very loving caregivers at Schooner Estates.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Judith and Alan Hoffsommer of East Brookfield, Mass., Deborah and Dale Perkins of Monmouth, and Jane and David Emery of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Sarah Myers, Philip, Johnathon, Seth, and Joshua Hoffsommer all of Massachusetts, Kimberly, Bethany and Stephany Perkins of Monmouth, Melissa, Matthew, and Benjamin Emery of Auburn; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Sandra Mott and Lois Hoisington.
