OXFORD – Students from the Boxberry School participated in Destination Imagination on March 6 at Edward Little High School in Auburn with other student teams from Western Maine. The children were given a challenge in which they had to come up with their own play including characters, costumes and props.

Georgina Grenier, head teacher at the Boxberry School and team facilitator says, “This program gives some of the children their first encounter presenting in front of a group. It was a wonderful experience for them!”

The Rising Stars program is the noncompetitive age group in which seven full-time and two part-time Boxberry students participated.

Competition against other state teams begins in the third grade. The focus was on storytelling, rhyming, following multi-step directions, teamwork and speaking in front of an audience.

Betsy Baird, regional director of Destination Imagination said, “It’s wonderful when our youngest teams come and celebrate creative problem solving with us.”

The Boxberry School is a nonprofit, independent elementary school in the Oxford Hills area and serves both full- and part-time students. For more information, call 743-9700.
