1923 – 2004

FARMINGTON – John C. Gould, 80, a resident of Farmington, died Thursday, March 25, at Orchard Park Nursing Home, where he had resided for five months.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1923, in Jay, the son of Ralph V. and Helen Randall Clifford Gould. He attended Jay High School where he was a member of the class of 1941.

On Sept. 1, 1945, he married Dorothy Piper in Wilton. She passed away on June 23, 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Airborne Division stationed in Europe. In recent years he enjoyed attending several reunions with his fellow Airborne buddies.

He and his wife lived in North Jay until 1964, when they moved to Norridgewock and raised their family. In 1983, they moved to Farmington where they managed Twin Pond Cabins in Farmington for their son, James and his wife Donna.

Upon retirement, they were residents of Knowlton Corner Road in Farmington. He worked at the Wilton Woolen Mill as an office worker from 1941 to 1954, and at Norwalk Shoe Co. in North Jay from 1963 until his retirement in 1981.

He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer. He was also a member of the Bartlett United Methodist Church of North Jay.

He is survived by four sons and their wives, James and Donna of Farmington, Timothy and Joni of Smithfield, Robert “Andy” and Donna of Norridgewock and Ronald of Oakland; two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Ken Wallace of Mercer and Patricia and Steve Libby of Penacook, N.H.; a brother, Chester Lee Gould of North Jay; a sister, Marjorie Donald of Wilton; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, L. Stewart Gould in 1978.
