PORTLAND – The four bags, a New York City-based ensemble comprised of trombone, accordion, guitar and clarinet/saxophone will perform Thursday, April 1, at the Portland Conservatory of Music.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the conservatory located at 116 Free St.

The four bags’ repertoire includes arrangements of music as diverse as Frederic Chopin, Alec Wilder and Brian Wilson.

The New Yorker magazine wrote that “the four bags coat Chopin mazurkas, familiar Beach Boys songs and tender originals with odd textures and rhythms.”

The members are Mike McGinnis, a graduate of the University of Southern Maine and the Eastman School of Music; accordionist Tom Aldrich, who studied music at New York University and composition with Paul Caputo; Guitarist and composer Sean Moran who is a faculty member at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music; and trombonist, pianist and composer Brian Drye, a graduate of the University of Miami.

Admission is $15 and $12 for students and seniors.
