1942 – 2004

LEWISTON – Shirley Marie Emery, 62, formerly of Dumas Street in Lisbon Falls, died Sunday, March 28, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Rangeley, March 21, 1942, the daughter of Guy and Eona Bean, she was one of seven children. She attended school in Rangeley and later attended business college in Scranton, Ohio.

On July 6, 1963, she married Fraust Maurice Emery and he died May 8, 2000. She was a member of Pioneer Chapter 311 Eastern Star. She was also a member and past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 66. She served as a counselor at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State for many years and always loved her involvement with them.

She worked in the office at the Worumbo Mills in Lisbon Falls and later worked for L.L. Bean in Freeport and the Semi Conductor plant in South Portland.

She went to Egypt to be with her husband, Fraust who worked there for Bath Iron Works. She and Fraust always opened their home to those in need. She was a loving and caring person always giving of herself and expecting nothing in return.

She learned sign language so that she could help a dear friend, Joyce Austin who lived with them for many years. Fraust’s brother, Donald lived with them in their home until his death in 2002. She was also very privileged to marry many couples when she was a justice of the peace.

Survivors include one brother, Willis and his wife, Charlene of Winslow; one sister-in-law, Elleta, widow of Shirley’s brother, Herbert, who aided her during her convalescence; one brother-in-law, Bill and his wife, LeeAnne of Idaho; and one sister-in-law, Mildred of New Mexico; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews of whom she was very fond.
