JAY – The Friends Together Support and Recovery Center at 70 Main St. has been active recently, beginning with a New Year’s party at the club.

On Feb. 7, they participated in the Wellness Fair sponsored by the Healthy Community Coalition at the University of Maine at Farmington, handing out brochures and stress balls.

In January they enjoyed a meal at R ‘n K’s in Livermore Falls and the February meal out was at Yianni’s in Jay. In March they went to Kentucky Fried chicken in Farmington.

In addition to the meals out, the group shops once a month at an area business. They have been to the Dollar Store in Livermore Falls and Wal-Mart in Farmington.

At the club, they play games, socialize and do arts and crafts such as valentine’s cards, made with the assistance of Honey and Melinda Pomerleau. Several crocheted granny squares were recently donated to the group and they will make afghans from them.

Terry Berry, Cooperative Extension nutrition aide, visits once a month, teaching members about nutritious foods and sharing recipes for healthy meals.

Once a month the group holds a bingo game and a Pokeno with prizes awarded to the winners. Every Wednesday they have lunch cooked by Chef Cindy and served to all for $1 per member.

Now the group is looking forward to spring with several more events planned. New members or volunteers are welcome.
