GREENE – Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection will entertain at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the Sawyer Memorial.

Admission is free and doors open one hour before the show. The Sawyer Memorial is located at 371 Sawyer Rd.

Brown, a 19-year-old Lewiston resident, has a talent for combining the precision of classical music with the spontaneity of bluegrass fiddle.

At age 7 she was competing in fiddle contests with kids twice her age and by the age of 9 she was traveling throughout New England, Canada and Louisiana with the Maine French Fiddlers.

Brown has produced and released three solo CDs. The first recording, “Bowing the Strings,” was recorded in 1999 when she was 15. It contains 22 fiddle tunes, capturing the French Canadian and Bluegrass styles. Her second recording, “Just Taking Notes,” recorded and released in 2001, contains 16 fiddle tunes. Her most recent CD, “Imagine That,” was released in 2003 and features a selection of 13 vocal and fiddle tunes.

Her band includes her younger brother, Daniel, on mandolin. He discovered the mandolin at age 10 while attending weekend bluegrass festivals with his sister and family.

Today, at the age of 16, he is on his way to becoming an accomplished bluegrass musician.

Lincoln Meyers plays guitar for the Bluegrass Connection and is a dynamic and talented flat-picker. The newest member of the Bluegrass Connection is bass player Ken Taylor.
