Pros ready to ride the rails

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Sugarloaf/USA has invited some of New England’s top rail riders to take part in the first Budweiser Rail Jam Saturday, April 3. A series of urban rail features will be built on The Landing just above the Base Lodge for this spectator-friendly street-style handrail event where these pro riders and skiers will compete for cash and prizes.

“We wanted to create an event where spectators can see up close these phenomenal tricks these talented riders can do in a way that will be a celebration of the upcoming spring,” said Bobby Brown, Sugarloaf’s marketing manager.

The evening will kick off at 5 p.m. with the John Cate Band performing live outside the lodge. “When our guests told us how much they liked John and his band, we knew we had to bring them back,” Brown said.

Throughout the evening, the grills will be sizzling and the tunes cranking. Partygoers will also have the opportunity to win new skis, snowboard and prizes. “The skiing and riding in April is some of the best all season. The warm sun and longer days creates the ideal conditions for spending time on the slopes and enjoying the outdoors,” Brown said.

The Rail Jam invitational will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. when riders and skiers will compete with their most daring and expertly executed tricks. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display.
