DETROIT, Mich. – Richard H. Lavoie, 70, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., died Sunday, March 28.

Born Feb. 20, 1934, in Lewiston, Mr. Lavoie moved to Michigan in 1956 after serving in the U.S. Navy for four years. He raised his family in Detroit and was a member of St. Matthew’s Parish. Mr. Lavoie worked as a chef at the London Chop House, the Savoyard Club and Jim’s Garage in Detroit and the Crews Inn on the Clinton River.

Until his last illness, he sailed on Lake St. Clair, skated, and skied in Michigan, Colorado, Vancouver and Utah. He was a regular at the health club and loved scuba diving and snorkeling when traveling to the Caribbean. He was happiest on a golf course.

Mr. Lavoie became a baseball and hockey fan after playing those sports at Lewiston High School. He was devoted to the Detroit Red Wings and was a patron of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Lavoie is survived by his wife, Lorraine (nee Gilbert); daughter, Donna O’Connor (Thomas); sons, Ronald, John (Karen), Richard (Suzie); seven grandchildren; his sisters, Carmen Gilbert and Yvette Henault and his brother, Pete Lavoie all from Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
