Dear Sun Spots: “Stars on Ice” is scheduled for April 10 in Portland. Are there any scheduled bus trips to this event for senior citizens?

If so, whom should I contact? – No Name, Mechanic Falls.

Answer:
Contact the Lewiston Senior Citizens, who have planned a trip for April 10. There is room for three more to take this trip. Contact them at (207) 784-2926, ext. 204 or 207.

Dear Sun Spots: I am in need of a triple stroller. I have a small, home day care in Auburn. Please call me as soon as possible. The nice weather is almost here! I can be reached at (207) 786-4771. – No Name, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: I am hoping that maybe you can help me. Now that spring is around the corner, I have an area where I would like to plant some wildflowers. We rototilled it and then cleaned it out as much as possible but the weeds still have overtaken the area. Is there a way that I can get rid of the weeds so I can just have the wildflowers? Thank you so much for your column and help. – D.M., Leeds.

Answer:
Sun Journal gardening columnist Jody Goodwin says that, come spring when the ground is just beginning to warm, you need to:

Put a covering of thick, black plastic over the entire space.

Weight it down with rocks and leave it until fall.

This, Goodwin says, should successfully “cook” the weeds and their seeds. Then next spring, you should rototill again and give it two weeks. If there are no weeds, or no great number of them, then you can plant. If there are still large numbers of weeds, repeat the first process with the black plastic for another season. Oh, and Jody wishes you Happy Gardening!

Dear Sun Spots: I would like to know if anyone knows all the words to “A Teddy Bear’s Picnic?” – Anita Ducharme, Monmouth.

Answer:
Sun Spots recalls this fondly from her childhood and hopes you do too:

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

If you go down to the woods today

You’re sure of a big surprise

If you go down to the woods today

You’d better go in disguise

For ev’ry bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Ev’ry Teddy Bear who’s been good

Is sure of a treat today.

There’s lots of marvelous things to eat

And wonderful games to play

Beneath the trees where nobody sees

They’ll hide and seek as long as they please

‘Cause that’s the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic

If you go down to the woods today

You’d better not go alone

It’s lovely down in the woods today

But safer to stay at home

For ev’ry bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for Teddy Bears

The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares

And see them picnic on their holiday.

See them gaily gad about

They love to play and shout;

They never have any care;

At six o’clock their Mummies and Daddies,

Will take them home to bed,

Because they’re tired little Teddy Bears.

Dear Sun Spots: I have acquired a Magic Chef Cool Touch Skillet, which works beautifully. However, I do not have an instruction booklet. The model is TSK-217GW and it is dated 0798. Would Sun Spots, in her infinite knowledge, be able to obtain an address or, ideally, a toll-free number for the Magic Chef Co.? Thank you for your efforts. – S.C., Lewiston.

Answer:
Call (800) 947-6200 and they will send you a copy free of charge. Anyone who answers should be able to help you, as long as you provide the model number.
