FARMINGTON – Theatre UMF will present two sets of plays for its Spring Festival. The first is at 7:30 p.m. April 5, 7 and 9 in Alumni Theatre. The second set of three one-act plays will be staged at 7:30 p.m. April 6 and 8 and 2 p.m. April 10.
The first play, “Boys and Girls,” by Tom Donaghy, is a two-act play directed by Dr. Andrea Southard. The other set consists of three one-act student-directed plays: “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell, directed by Amy Carsten; “Pillow Talk” by Peter Tolan, directed by Arturo T. Meneses, and “Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You” by Christopher Durang, directed by Maxim Blowen-Ledoux.
“Trifles” compares the way men and women look at the world. A murder has been committed and the questions seem to be who did it and, maybe more importantly, why.
“Pillow Talk” explores two friends’ relationship. Taking a break from a road trip, Doug and Aaron end up at Aaron’s grandmother’s mobile home in Arizona. The two men must share a bed and their neuroses.
“Sister Mary Ignatius” is a comedy lecture given by the nun. She’s interrupted by the arrival of four former students who’ve come to confront her about the way she treated them in grade school.
“Boys and Girls” is a comedy-drama that looks at relationships and what constitutes a family. Two couples, with a complicated history of love and loss, reach across vast obstacles in order to grow up, settle down and raise a child.
