FARMINGTON – Registrations are being taken for Farmington area students, grades four to seven, who want to join the Recreation Department’s softball program.

Prospective players must be at least 9 years old as of Jan. 1. Anyone interested should plan on attending the sign-up meeting, which will be 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Community Center.

This entry-level softball, now in its third year, will take place during May and June, beginning with pre-season practices, a home and away regular-season schedule, and culminating with post-season playoffs. Last year, more than 50 players participated on four teams competing against each other, and against two teams from Wilton and one from Kingfield. All essential equipment will be provided by the Recreation Department. Players only need to bring a glove.

Lisa Dube will again be director. Head coaches of last season’s other local teams, Beth Allen from the Wildcats, Tim Thompson from the Royals and Teresa Hardy of the Panthers have also indicated they plan to volunteer again this season.

A standard registration fee of $20 is charged to all players. A nonresident fee of $5 applies to those participants who don’t live in Farmington, Farmington Falls, West Farmington or Fairbanks. An additional $5 visor fee is asked of each participant to help defray the annual cost of supplemental uniform expenses.

For more information, people can contact the Recreation Department at the Farmington Community Center, 778-3464.
