FARMINGTON – Professor Wesley McNair, director of the creative writing program at the University of Maine at Farmington, will give his last reading at the college on April 7 before his retirement in May. The reading will consist of old and new poems written since his arrival at UMF in 1987. His presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in Ricker Hall.

McNair’s poetry has appeared in several individual collections, the Pushcart Prize annual, two editions of The Best American Poetry and more than 50 anthologies and college textbooks. He has also authored a volume of essays, “Mapping the Heart,” and he has edited two anthologies, including the recently released volume, “The Maine Poets.” Another anthology and two collections of poems are forthcoming.

On the nominating jury for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize in poetry and a recipient of grants from the Rockefeller, Fulbright and Guggenheim foundations, McNair has won an NEH Fellowship in Literature, two NEA fellowships in poetry, and an Emmy Award.

McNair’s reading at UMF will be followed by a book-signing. For more information, call Administrative Assistant Shari Witham at 778-7425.
