Aimee Brown was knocked down and run over by both tires.

FARMINGTON – A university student is recovering from injuries she received Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle as she crossed Main Street.

Elinor Clifford, 81, of Farmington, was driving a sport utility vehicle when she had stopped at the crosswalk in front of Scott Hall South at the University of Maine at Farmington to let three pedestrians cross the street, police Officer Bridgette Dellarma said.

A fourth pedestrian, Aimee Brown, 19, of Winslow, who lives on campus, was scurrying to cross the street at about noon but Clifford didn’t see her and ended up striking her, Dellarma said.

Brown was knocked down and run over by both tires, Dellarma said.

Brown suffered injuries to her pelvic area, Dellarma said.

She was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington where she was stabilized, Dellarma said, before she was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

A hospital spokeswoman said Brown was in fair condition Monday.

Officer Darin Gilbert, university police and LifeStar Ambulance personnel assisted Dellarma at the scene.

The accident is under investigation, Dellarma said.
