LEWISTON – Elizabeth J. “Betty” Atwood, 70, of Lewiston, passed away April 5, at CMMC, surrounded by her family, after a courageous four-month battle with lung cancer.

Born to Olive (Dunham) and Clyde Wilcox of Rangeley, she moved to Lewiston in 1959, where she worked for many years at the Mammoth Mart, the Wilson Dollar Store and the Paris Cinema.

In the 1980s she proudly owned her own convenience store called “Betty’s Variety.” “Betty” was a dedicated volunteer through the years, coaching Lewiston Rec track in the 1970s and Auburn Rec softball in the 1980s.

A “Jill of all trades,” she took pride in fixing anything that was broken. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching all sports. Her undeniable wit and humor along with her strong love of family will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Frances Chamberland and husband, Richard; two sons, Michael Wilcox and wife, Yvonne and Kenneth Atwood; six grandchildren, Kristine Fox and husband, Tim, Kellie Cloutier and husband, Jeff, Jennifer Wilcox and husband, Bobby, Kim Henderson and husband, Jamie, Kathy Bond and husband, Todd and Jessica Sappington and husband, Randall; great-grandchildren, Bethany Fox, Tyler and Davin Cloutier, Randy and Jonathan Lewis, Matthew, Sierra and Jacob Henderson, Courtney Roy and Gabriel and Amanda Sappington; her best friend and sister, Maude Dionne; and other siblings, Patricia Weeks, Mona Ridley, Nedra Richmond, Carol Sherman and Gaylon Wilcox and their families.
