Dear Sun Spots: I have a friend who graduated from Mid-State College in Auburn a few years ago and she is now stationed in Cuba with her husband. She would like to know how to go about getting her transcripts from Mid-State. Thanks for all the help you give your readers daily.
Also, could you tell me if Rain-Dance car wax is still being made and if so, where can it be purchased. Thank you. – Laura A. Campbell, Lisbon.
Answer: Regarding your first question: According to an August 28, 2003, Sun Journal article, under Maine law, the college had until March 4, 2004, to send all of its academic records, including individual student transcripts, to the state Department of Education.
Danielle C. McKay, secretary School Support Systems at the Maine Department of Education says: In order to receive a copy, they need a note from your friend requesting her records. Please send your request to McKay’s attention at:

Please include a note indicating you are requesting Mid-State College records, Auburn or Augusta location, your full name, any other names you might have had, your date of birth, your address at time of attendance, the general years that you attended and the name of the program(s) that you majored in.
If you are furthering your education, or planning to become certified, put the word “official” in your request. That school is looking for a signed-sealed envelope, which should go directly to the school address provided by you.
A copy can be sent wherever you request. It will get stamped with an embossing stamp (state of Maine Seal) and Harry Osgood, the Higher Education specialist for the Maine Department of Education, will sign it. There is also a fee of $3 per copy, payable to: Treasurer, State of Maine.
Regarding your second question: According to www.autobarn.net you can purchase a 24 ounce bottle for $3.99. Alternatively, you can call them at 888-484-9560 to order a bottle.

Dear Sun Spots: I have an old model PC10 Canon, small desk copier, in excellent condition. My problem is that the replacement cartridges cost more than a new copier of similar size.
Is there such a thing as a company that reloads cartridges at a much lower cost? Thank you. – A. Barrett, Turner.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots had this exact problem with another printer. A refill kit is available at most office supply stores. Basically you inject the ink into the old cartridges. They carry several colors, especially if you have a color printer. Sun Spots does not know if this will work with your particular printer but it’s worth attempting. Another option is to turn down the darkness of your printer under printer options. Oftentimes the printer is printing darker than necessary. This will also save ink. Perhaps other readers have hints they’d be willing to share with you.
Dear Sun Spots: I have very good luck asking for help before so I will try again.
I wondered if any ladies had any embroidery pieces to be done that they don’t want any more. My mom is 94-years-old and loves to embroider. It’s hard now to find work for her. I would be happy to pick them up if it’s not too far. Also, you could mail them and I would be willing to pay the postage. I hope this will bring some responses for her. It would make her so happy. If mailing you can call for the address. I can be reached at (207) 743-8336. – K. Scribner, South Paris.
