1916 – 2004

RUMFORD – Joseph A. Arnold III, 87, of Pine Street, Dixfield, died Tuesday evening, April 6, at the Rumford Community Hospital.

He was born in West Peru, June 21, 1916, a son of Joseph A. and Daisy (Dwinal) Arnold Jr. He received his education in local schools and graduated from Stephens High School in 1932. He continued his education at Hebron Academy.

On July 17, 1943, he married Geraldine Hall in Mexico. Mr. Arnold was employed at Boise Cascade in Rumford for 44 years.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hiking, and gardening. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding and snowmobiling.

Mr. Arnold was a member of the Dixfield Historical Society, the North America Family Campers Association, the Dixfield Congregational Church, the Good Sam Campers Association, and was an 18-year member of the Penobscot Valley Acres Campground.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine of Dixfield; three sons, Joseph A. Arnold IV and his fiance’ Linda Martel of Dover, N.H., William H. Arnold and his wife Bunny of Mexico, and Peter L. Arnold and his wife, Shirley of Brownsburg, Ind.; grandchildren, Peter Arnold and his wife Shelby, Elijah, Amelia, Meghann, Bryn, Jordan, Callie, and Ross; several neices and nephews.

He was predceased by a sister, Verna Arnold.
