PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rich Brennan’s power-play goal with 22 seconds left in overtime gave the Providence Bruins a 2-1 victory over the Portland Pirates on Wednesday night.

Portland’s Mike Pudlick was penalized for holding at 4:05 of overtime. Brennan then unloaded a slap shot that beat Maxime Ouellet at 4:38 for his 11th goal of the season.

The victory clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs for the Bruins (35-28-10-4), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Providence outshot Portland 6-2 in the first period, but the Pirates (29-27-13-8) led 1-0 heading into intermission. Boyd Gordon beat Tim Thomas on a backhander at 18:17.

The Bruins tied it at 17:34 of the second period on Matt Herr’s 18th goal of the season. Pat Leahy sent Herr in on a breakaway and he beat Ouellet up top with a backhander.

Ouellet made 28 saves as the Pirates’ four-game winning streak came to an end. Thomas made 16 saves for Providence.
