1908 – 2004

STRONG – Myrtie B. Flood, 95, of Strong, died Thursday, April 8, at her home in Strong following a long illness.

She was born July 13, 1908, in West Freeman, a daughter of Carroll H. and M.Grace (Peary) Brackley. She graduated from Strong High School the class of 1927, and from Emerson College in Boston, Mass. After graduation she worked for a theatre group, which traveled performing plays throughout the New England area.

She married Verne E. Flood of Farmington, Sept. 3, 1932. He died April 21, 1974.

While living in Strong she helped out with theater groups and school age public speaking. She was also active in the Strong United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Strong Cooperative Extension, a charter member of the Strong Historical Society, a 50-year member of the DAR, and a 50-year member of the Oppalunski Chapter of the Eastern Star, Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

For many years she was the treasurer for the Town of Strong Water District, and Treasurer of the Strong Public Library.

She will always be remembered as a loving and giving person whether she was caring for her elderly parents or for her husband, children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Skip) and her husband Robert Pike of West Freeman and Zellwood, Fla.; a son, Verne (Sherry) Flood and his wife Jacqueline Flood of Veazie; five grandchildren, Randall W. Pike and his wife Julie of Jay, Cheryl Clough and her husband John of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Sandra Goodwin and her husband Clarence of West Freeman, Shannon and her husband Rick Doyle of Bucksport and Suzanne Flood of Eddington; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, R. Lucille Mitchell and Fannie Elmera Starbird.
