NAPLES, FLA. – Paul S. Johnson, 76, of Naples, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 6. Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Naples, Fla., since 1995, coming from Auburn.

Born in Manchester, N.H., April 5, 1928, the son of the late Irving C. and Bessie P. (Scott) Johnson, he was raised as a child in the Wolfborough, N.H. area.

His father died when he was very young. He and his mother moved to the Auburn area when he was a teenager. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947. Following high school, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Shreveport, La. He was honorably discharged in 1953, having reached the rank of sergeant.

He then obtained a business degree from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and began his banking career. In 1951, he married Phyllis Richards Johnson. They lived in Auburn for 18 years and raised four children. He became the assistant treasurer of the Auburn Savings Bank. In 1972, he moved to Rangeley and purchased the Rangeley Manor Resort. In 1976, he returned to banking at the Franklin Savings Bank and continued running the resort with his sons and wife. He retired in 1986 in order to take care of his wife.

He was a past member of the United Commercial Travelers, a member of the Rotary Club in Auburn, Rangeley and Naples, Fla., and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Quail Run Golf Course in Naples, Fla. He was also a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Rangeley.

It was due to his love, persistence and support of many friends that he and the late Dr. Horsman provided the opportunity for his wife, Phyllis to receive one of the first kidney transplants in this country in 1966. In 1989, he found a cruise ship that provided dialysis in order to fulfill a wish Phyllis had of going on a cruise.

He was a hard worker with many talents, believing that there wasn’t much that one couldn’t learn to do, if one was willing to work. He also enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Fla., developing a love for golfing.

In 1995, he married Jeannie R. Robb and continued enjoying winters in Naples, Fla., summers in Rangeley and several trips to different parts of the world.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie R. Johnson of Naples, Fla.; two sons, Scott Johnson of Manchester, N.H., and David Johnson of Lisbon; two daughters, Gayle L. Johnson of Auburn and Belinda Ledue of Scarborough; 10 grandchildren; three stepchildren, Gregory Robb and Jennifer Letourneau, both of Westport, Mass. and Leesa Knudsen of Truckee, Calif.; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis Richards Johnson in 1992; two sisters; and his parents.
