Investigators said both suspects confessed to the crime.

LEWISTON – Two men were arrested early Thursday just minutes after a break-in at the new Andover College on Lisbon Street.

Police said one of the suspects was caught carrying computer parts stolen from the college. The other man was arrested shortly after at his home. Gary Gauthier, 23, of 102 Walnut St., and Habean Mabien, 23, of 127 Oak St., each was charged with burglary and theft.

At about 5 a.m., police responded to an alarm at the college, located at the former site of the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Investigators quickly discovered that the building had been broken into and began to search the area. Police said one suspect was found near the college carrying a trash can containing miscellaneous computer parts and other items.

The second suspect was found at his home minutes later and investigators said both suspects confessed to the break-in.

Gauthier and Mabien were taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where they were being held on $500 cash bail.

Police who investigated the burglary said they recovered a laptop computer, computer components, other equipment and a physician’s desk reference. Total value of the stolen loot was estimated at $2,500.

The 13,000-square-foot business school is designed for 250 students and faculty. Classes began at the college last month.
