MANCHESTER, N.H. – Eugene A. Lemieux, 69, of Manchester, N.H., died April 8, at the Catholic Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Sept. 13, 1934 the son of Antonio and Emelie (Gregoire) Lemieux and had been a resident of Manchester for many years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was Chairman of the Board of the Association Canado-Americaine Assurance. From 1980 to 2000 he was President General of the ACA, 1979 to 1980 the Treasurer General of the ACA, 1974 to 1979 the Secretary General of the ACA, and a board memeber of the ACA from 1969. He was the recipient of the highest honor ever awarded by ACA, Commandeur dans l’Ordre dela Legion d’Honneur.

He was a member of the St. Rosaire Lodge # 24, New Bedford, Mass. and a board member of the French Institute, Assumption College. He was past president of the Action Franco Americaine Nord Est and Chairman of the Board of the SMB Foundation from 1994 to 2000.

He was on the Board of Directors of St. Mary’s Bank since 1991, and a founding trustee of the Franco American Center. He was an officer of the Societe Historique Franco Americaine, and he was the recipient of an award from the government of France entitled Chvalier dans l’Ordre National du Merite. He was past president of the Comite de Vie Franco Americaine and a board member of the Conseil de la Vie Fancaise d’Amerique. He was Commissioner of the New Bedford Airport Commission, a Board member boy Scouts of America Camp Cachelot and Board member of the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, New Bedford.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pierrette (Bellemare) Lemieux of Manchester, N.H.; three sons, Pierre Lemieux of New Bedford, Mass., Bruce Lemieux of Manchester, N.H. and Eric Lemieux of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Pauline Lally of Acushnet, Mass, Louise Loveland of Wainsboro, Pa., Francine Lemieux of Douglasville, Pa., Dr. Celine Williamson of Gretna, La.; 14 grandchildren, a great-grandchild; three brothers, Alfred Lemieux and Henri Lemieux both of New Bedford, Mass. and Bernadette Lemieux of New Bedford, Mass. and several nieces and nephews.
