COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Blue Jackets signed University of Maine defenseman Prestin Ryan to a multi-year deal, club President and General Manger Doug MacLean announced Monday.

Ryan, 23, earned Second Team All-America and Hockey East All-Star honors and was named Hockey East’s Best Defensive Defenseman as a senior in 2003-04 after tallying four goals and 18 assists for 22 points with 148 penalty minutes and a +34 plus/minus rating in 43 games to help Maine to a 33-8-3 record and the Hockey East Playoff championship.

“Prestin is a great skater who is touch as mails,” said former Blue Jacket player Kevin Dineen, who is now a member of the club’s player development staff. “He is a real solid defenseman who can do a lot things well, but his strongest attributes are his skating and his physical play.”
Ligouri, Roux named LEC Athlete of the Week
GORHAM- Juniors Rob Ligouri and Chris Roux of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men’s outdoor track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference as its Track and Field Athletes of the Week in recognition of their outstanding performances last Saturday at the Bates Invitational. The Huskies will participate in the Maine Championships to be held this Saturday, April 17, at Bates College.
Alexander Swept NEWMAC Pitcher Awards
NORTON, M.A.- Wheaton College baseball standout Trevor Alexander swept the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletes Conference pitcher-of-the-week awards.

Alexander, a senior righthander for the Lyons, posted a 2-0 record in a pair of NEWMAC games this week, leading the Lyons to victories at Babson and Springfield. In two games, he struck out eight batters while surrendering a single earned a run on nine hits through 14 innings of work. Alexander had three strikeouts with six hits and one run allowed at Babson on Tuesday.
