An August fire destroyed a home on Nob Hill.
LEWISTON – A pro-police group based in Houlton is offering a cash award for information about an arson that occurred nearly eight months ago in Lewiston.
The Aroostook County Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for an August blaze that destroyed a home on Nob Hill.
Crime Stoppers was formed to help generate tips on unsolved crimes. It mostly handles crimes that occur in Aroostook County.
However, the group has been known to take interest in crimes that occur in other parts of the state, including Lewiston.
In 2001, Crime Stoppers offered cash for information about an arson that resulted in the death of a woman after a fire at an Ash Street apartment building.
A year later, the group put up money for information about the rape of a Bates College student.
Since late August, police and fire officials have been investigating a blaze that leveled a two-story family home at 9 Nob Hill Road.
A couple who lived in the home with their four children were not at home when the fire started and nobody was hurt. But damage to the house was estimated at $250,000 and investigators said the blaze was the work of arsonists.
Lewiston fire investigators and police detectives have been following up leads since the day of the blaze and the case remains open.
Crime Stoppers may be reached at 1-800-638-8477.
Locally, anyone with information about the fire may also call Lewiston police Detective Marc Robitaille at 795-9000, ext. 231.
