AUBURN – The employees and staff of Western Maine Community Action recently held an All-Staff Day at St. Philip’s Church. Employees from offices in Lewiston/ Auburn, South Paris, Rumford and Wilton got together for a day of fun and learning.

The focus was to combine good internal/external communication with the “Fish Philosophy” of having fun while working.

The morning began with an introduction and welcome by agency Executive Director Fenwick Fowler. Recognition awards were presented to several staffers for their years of service: Wanda Morse, 20 years; Judy Gerry, Janet Tracy and Denise Gouin, 15 years; Deb Craig and Betty Gatchell, 10 years; and Jen Scott and Rick White, five years.

Questions were asked and prizes were won by knowing the answers to trivia questions about Maine.

Keynote speakers for the morning session were Judith Castle, who presented a seminar on “Workplace Communication,” and Doreen Merrill of the Abused Women’s Advocacy, who presented a program on “Violence in the Workplace.”

After lunch, provided by the host, workshops continued, including “Workplace Communication” and “Rural Poverty.” After a final wrap-up the agency provided a gift for everyone.

Western Maine Community Action is a nonprofit agency connecting people to services and opportunities that meet their needs in Franklin, Oxford and Androscoggin counties.
