LIVERMORE FALLS – Town officials are cracking down on citizens who don’t recycle, especially those who are in the midst of spring cleaning.

Town Manager Alan Gove explained that unsorted trash may not be accepted at the transfer station because the local ordinance requires all trash to be sorted and recycled.

There is a $50 fine for anyone who attempts to dump unsorted waste, which includes clear and colored glass, plastic, mixed paper, tin cans, newspaper and corrugated cardboard. People must place trash in clear bags.

All this information is included in mandatory recycling and solid waste rules, which are available at the town office and the library as well as on the Web site: www.livermorefallsmaine.org.

Spring cleanup week has been set tentatively for April 26 – the final decision on it is expected to be made at the April 20 selectmen’s meeting.

Acceptable during that week will be leaves (no bags), yard rakings and brush. The town will not haul off limbs, trees, mattresses, furniture, tires, trash, appliances or swimming pools, Gove says. “Don’t put them out because we won’t pick them up,” he said.

The manager advised citizens to sort items, recycle, use clear bags, read the rules and follow them or take their $50 fine with them to the transfer station.

Shingles, painted wood, wallboard, Sheetrock, furniture and bulky items all go to Jay.
