Only one Mexico resident has taken out nomination papers.
MEXICO – Candidates are needed to run for Mexico’s four seats on the SAD 43 board.

Town Clerk Penny Duguay said that so far, with just one week to go before nomination papers are due, only incumbent Betty Barrett has taken out papers to run in the June 8 election.

Up for election are Barrett’s seat and incumbent representative Peter Zanoni’s seat. Both positions are for three years.

The seats currently held by Jarrod Dumas and Amy Bernard will also be open, said Duguay. Both of these directors, elected last year for three-year terms, have said they will resign so they can return to college. Neither have taken out papers. Nominees are needed to run for the remaining two years of their terms.

Those interested would need to pick up nomination papers at the Town Office, then gather the signatures of at least 25 registered Mexico voters. Nomination papers must be returned to the Town Office by April 23.

Duguay said several people have taken out nomination papers for three Board of Selectmen seats. Seats open are for those held by incumbents Monique Aniel and Reggie Arsenault. Both have taken out nomination papers. Also up for election will be the remaining two years in former Selectman Louise Waterhouse’s term. Waterhouse, a longtime board member, died earlier this year.
