Fees to participate remain unchanged.
LIVERMORE FALLS – Brenda Bryant discussed her summer recreation budget with selectmen and Budget Committee members early this month, asking for an $1,100 increase, some of which will help reimburse her for preseason expenses in getting the program set up.

She noted that she had cut supplies this year as there were only 177 participants compared to 254 previously. She proposes keeping registration fees the same as last year: $30 for Livermore Falls residents with $10 for each additional child in the family; $60 for Livermore residents and $30 for each additional; and $100 for those who live outside SAD 36.

Selectmen and Bryant agreed that last year’s fee increase may have cut the attendance but felt it only right to stay with it. “It’s a great program,” Bryant said. “They even get free breakfast and lunch every day.”

Livermore residents support the program with $26,750 in tax funds.

Bryant said she hopes to get the applications out to the school in May so she can plan for all those who register. Two years ago a larger than expected attendance created some problems and the need to hire extra counselors at the last minute.

Fire Chief Ken Jones reviewed his proposed budget with the boards, announcing that he had just received a $19,000 homeland security grant that he plans to use for radios, an airbag lifting kit and a monitor for the thermal imaging camera.

This money cannot be used to replace regular support by the town, he said. He is also applying for another grant that could be used to bring the turnout gear for his 28 firefighters up to date.

Jones spoke about the need for repairs to the Mack Engine III and the E-One, and the need for a squad truck, stressing that the equipment is getting pretty old and is in bad shape.

In regular session the board agreed to keep the $25 deposit required for the library auditorium if it is not returned immediately after the group using it is done. The town recently had to “run down” a missing key.
