FARMINGTON – Five area students, who were selected as Good Citizens by their respective school faculties, were presented Daughters of the American Revolution pins, certificates, books and a check at the March 23 luncheon meeting of Colonial Daughters Chapter.
Regent Connie Hiltz assisted Loraine Norton in presenting the awards to James A. Foster II of Livermore Falls High School, Rachel Gagnon of Jay High School, Serena Holbrook of Rangeley Lakes High School, Jennifer Jones of Mount Blue High School, in Farmington and Joanna R. White of Mount Abram High School in Salem.
All the DAR candidates entered a two-hour essay writing competition. Jones’ winning essay, “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It,” has been entered into the statewide DAR competition. Each student introduced the faculty members and parents to the chapter.
Gwilym Roberts entertained members and guests with memories from his Russian travels and subsequent hospitalization that showed the economic and technological advantages in this country.
