NORWAY – The Norway Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in its meeting room. The program will feature Pat Chandler, artist and illustrator, speaking about her work and about Akers paintings.
On display will be several Akers, including one large and unusual one. Nomination for officers and trustees will be accepted, and refreshments will follow. The public is welcome.
The Norway Historical Society has extensive family records. People can help by supplying biographical information about deceased family members.
Open house
PARIS – The Paris Public Library will hold an open house at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in recognition of National Library Week.
It will feature the dedication of the new book shelving donated in memory of Mark Otterson, who served many years as a trustee and secretary of the Paris Public Library. The 360 feet of new shelving will allow a major reorganization and expansion of the library’s collection.

Receives award
BERLIN, N.H. – The Coos County Family Health Services directors announce that Rolanda Duchesne has been selected as the recipient of the 2004 Sylvia Evans Citizenship Award.
The award is presented annually to a woman in the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the well-being of women and families in the North Country.
Duchesne, who resides in Milan, has been executive director of the United Way of Northern New Hampshire for more than 20 years. She has also been a community volunteer in many venues.
Duchesne will receive her award at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the White Mountain Chalet. The public is invited. RSVP at 752-3669, ext. 4014, by Friday, April 23, if planning to attend.
Sunday speaker
NORWAY – Cindy Reedy will be the guest speaker on Sunday, April 25, at the Norway Unitarian Universalist Church. Her topic will be “A Heretical Faith; Catharism, the Religion of the Cathors. “
Reedy is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and has been a lay speaker at the Norway church. She teaches at Hebron Academy and lives in Norway with her husband and three children. Reedy visited France in March and will bring her experiences from visits to some of the Cathar sites.
Worship services will begin at 11 a.m., led by the Rev. Joy Gasta, with Music Director Heather Pierson and the choir. Religious education will start at 11:15 a.m. Children will attend the first part of the service with their parents. A coffee social will follow the service. All are welcome. The church is located at 479 Main St.
Snow Hoppers
PARIS – The Snow Hoppers Snowmobile Club of South Paris will hold its last meeting of the season on Tuesday, April 27, at the CN Brown Conference Room.
A potluck supper will start at 6:30 with a business meeting and election of officers to follow.
Plans will be made for the annual yard sale in June to benefit Pine Tree Camp. All are welcome. Call President Peter Bickford at 743-8526 for details.
Bridge play
NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge played a session April 16. Winners were: first, Pete Cummings and Woody Mercier; second, Les Buzzell and Harry Richardson; third, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens; fourth, Barbara and Paul Beegel.
