FARMINGTON – Bargain hunters may find good deals on used toys and children’s clothing at the third annual Kid Stuff Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, on the front and side lawns of Old South Congregational Church on Main Street.

The Kid Stuff Sale is being sponsored by the Franklin County Children’s Task Force. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Western Mountain Children’s Camp Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship fund was started last year to help local children attend area summer camps.

Last year, the event raised $500, which enabled 11 area children to attend local day camps.

This year, scholarship winners will be able to choose from several local camp programs and, in the future, organizers hope to be able to fund scholarships year-round to enrichment programs in the area.

The first Kid Stuff sale was a toy sale held by area parents to raise money for children in Afghanistan.

Children were asked to donated their outgrown toys to raise money for children who had much less.

“The event started as a way for children to appreciate what they had and help other children,” explains Barb Marshall, chairperson of the event, “and then we became aware of the need for scholarships to summer camps.”

This year more than 20 volunteers are helping to sort toys and clothes, collect donations for a silent auction table and supply treats for a bake sale table.

Local businesses are donating gift certificates to the silent auction table.

Applications for the scholarship will be available at the sale and available in May at the Children’s Task Force. Children ages 3 to 6 are eligible for the camp scholarships.

A panel of volunteers from the Task Force will review the applications and award the scholarships.
