BETHEL – Nominations are being sought by the Bethel Historical Society’s Historic Preservation Committee for the society’s Historic Award.

The award recognizes an outstanding effort of stewardship of a historical property in the region served by the society’s Regional History Center. The following criteria may be used in the selection process: (1) property’s age (50 years of more), (2) historical integrity, (3) visual appropriateness, (4) historical adaptive reuse and (5) special considerations.

Nominations should be suggested by Saturday, May 1. Any award announcement will be made on Thursday, May 13, during National Historic Preservation Week. Arts Community to meet
RUMFORD – The River Valley Arts Community will hold its first gathering at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Spiritual City Studios, 25 Urquhart St. There will be introductions at 6 p.m., followed by a jam session. All visual artists, musicians, novelists, craftsmen and poets are invited. People are asked to bring a piece of their work to share. Future plans are to create festivals, performances and readings to enhance the cultural aspects of the River Valley. People who plan to attend are being asked to contact Jean or Boris Popovich at 369-0656 by Monday, April 26.
