KINGFIELD – Firefighters dug through a sawdust bin Tuesday to put out a fire at Kingfield Wood Products. A state fire investigator is being called in to try and determine the cause.
The sawdust bin by the boiler room caught fire, Kingfield Fire Chief Charles Hinkley said.
Flames were showing when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
About 10 firefighters from Kingfield and Salem responded to fight the blaze.
Carrabassett Valley and Strong firefighters were called out, but turned back before they arrived on the scene.
The fire was under control in about 10 minutes but firefighters remained on the scene to go through the sawdust to completely put it out, he said.
It’s the second fire in about a week at the plant.
The first one was in the boiler room and the sawdust bin, he said.
That fire ruined the room, including plumbing and electrical wires, he said, but the boiler was still intact and OK.
