AUBURN – State Commander Herman Wright, American Legion, will be the installing officer for New Auburn Post 153 on Friday, April 23. Wright will be assisted by State Adjutant Ron Sailor and State Chaplain Paul L’Heureux.

Special guests will include Gold Star Mother Nancy Cunningham whose son, Daniel, lost his life in Iraq, and Dorothy Picard whose son, Josh Gould, recently returned from Iraq.

The installation will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and a dance for members and guests at 8 p.m.

LEWISTON – Lucas Colavecchio, reporter for WGME TV 13, will be the Master of Ceremony for “Broadway-LA from the Heart” being staged at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Lewiston Middle School.

The two-hour event, directed by Vince Knue, will feature tunes from well loved musicals. The show is a first-time joint fund-raiser with Community Little Theatre and Central Maine Medical Center. Proceeds will benefit the theater’s endowment fund and the hospital’s cardiac center.

AARP speakers
LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Chapter, AARP, will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Multi-Purpose Center seniors room, Birch Street.

Speakers will be Dr. Michael C. Saradyarian and Dr. Barry M. White on “Common Foot Disorders and Treatment Options Available.” They are members of the Foot and Ankle Associates of Maine, with offices in Lewiston, Brunswick and Edgecomb. The two are trained in all aspects of the foot and ankle and provide surgical care in eight area surrounding hospitals.

The board of directors will meet at 1:15 p.m. Attendance and pot of gold drawings will be held followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome.
Fellowship
AUBURN – The Young at Heart Fellowship will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the Court Street Baptist Church. There will be a business meeting with President Hester Gilpatric presiding. Devotions will be led by the Rev. Mervin Kelleher of the Lewiston Church of the Brethen.

A potluck luncheon will be held at noon. Members are reminded to bring items signed up for the luncheon at the March meeting, also a place setting.

The program will be given by the Edward Little High School singers, under the direction of Beth Labrie.
VFW agenda
LEWISTON – The Longley Dionne VFW Post 9150 and Auxiliary will meet Sunday, April 25, at 11 a.m. instead of noon at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All members are encouraged to attend.

The agenda will include nomination and election of officers; placing flags at veterans’ graves at Mt. Hope Cemetery on May 15; Poppy Days at Shaw’s on May 27, 28 and 29; and the Memorial Day parade on May 29.
Scholarship
LISBON – The membership of Ancient York Lodge, AF and AM, offers a $500 scholarship for post-secondary education annually for a town of Lisbon resident.

The $500 scholarship applications for post-secondary education are available for 12th-grade level.

The scholarships are for Lisbon residents only attending Lisbon High School, Lisbon Falls Christian School or home-schooled.

Bridge results
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at Montello Heights on April 19 were: N/S, first, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; second, Anna Vitiello and Randy Silver; third, Lucille Bilodeau and Roger Briggs; first in B, Grace and Luke Merry.

The game on April 26 will be the annual American Contract Bridge League Charity Game. This year’s proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
