FALMOUTH – After a two-year hiatus, the Jimmy Fund is returning to southern Maine by way of the Casella Classic/Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament. The event is set for the Woodlands Country Club, Sept. 26-27.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday with a reception, silent auction, dinner and live auction. The tourney is set for Monday, with morning and afternoon tee times, followed by an awards banquet and dinner.

The event, formerly known as the Robert K. Goodman Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament, began in 1975 in honor and remembrance of Bobby Goodman who succumbed to leukemia at the age of 17.

The Jimmy Fund began in 1948 when a 12-year-old cancer patient, known as “Jimmy” to preserve his anonymity, sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” on a national radio show. Donations were requested over the airwaves so “Jimmy” could have a TV to watch his beloved Boston Braves from his hospital bed. Contributions totaling more than $200,000 arrived from all over the country and The Jimmy Fund was born.

More information on the tourney can be obtained by contacting Christopher Parsons at (207) 883-4600, or e-mail chris.parsons@casella.com.
